Week of Jan. 19th

Thursday our class ONLY has earned another free dress for our outstanding hallway behavior.

Friday is Spirit Dress.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE 100TH DAY OF SCHOOL PROJECT WILL BE COMING HOME ON TUESDAY.  YOUR CHILD WILL BRING HOME THE DIRECTIONS AND A POSTER TO COMPLETE BY JANUARY 29th.


Key Concepts for the Week:

Religion--We will continue Chapter 14 which focuses on becoming better followers of Jesus.  The children will identify ways to share the light of Christ with others and ways to be a peacemaker.  Wednesday will go to Mass.


Phonics/Language Arts--This will be our last week in Unit 2 of Reading Street.  The final phonics skills for the unit are using long /e/.  We are also going to be reading words with syllables using the VCCV pattern.  The story of the week is "Honey Bees."  The decodable story homework is sliding to Thursday this week.

Handwriting--Spelling words will be sent home on Tuesday.  Wednesday we will use the handwriting book to write key terms related to Baptism.  Thursday we will take a practice test this week.  Spelling test on Friday. 

Math--We are starting Volume Two of the math series with the skills of subtraction.  Tuesday we will practice how to make a ten to subtract.

Science--Our focus this week will primarily be "Penguins."  Students will make a fact book, learn about the life cycle, penguin adaptations, and finally participate in an experiment to learn the importance of blubber to penguins.
