Week of Dec. 15th

1st Grade is Snow Much Fun!


The Christmas Song bonus challenge on Thursday was to create a snowflake display!


Monday's theme is to wear something that brings you "Joy." 

Wednesday the 1st graders are being asked to wear a Santa Hat.

Friday is Red/Green Free Dress.   Christmas party at 2:00.

Our class will be having a pizza lunch in the classroom on Friday is celebration of Delilah's birthday.


Reindeer Day, Christmas sock day, and creating a mosiac of the Holy Family.

Key Concepts for the Week:

Religion--Monday and Tuesday we will complete Chapter 3 about The Holy Family.  Mass is on   Wednesday.  Thursday and Friday we will read and discuss the section in the book about the church season of Christmas.

Key Concepts for the Upcoming Week:

Religion--In addition to our daily Advent lesson, we will spend the week discussing the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem.  Mass will be on Monday.

Language Arts/Grammar--The phonics skills focus on the sound of long /i/ using the i-e pattern.  We are also going to practice reading words with digraphs /ch and wh/.  The main story of the week is "Who Works Here?"  The grammar portion of the lessons is going to be teaching the children how to correctly read, capitalize, and use titles.  We are very close to finishing our first interactive reading spiral.  This week the children will be creating a high frequency word rainbow, lift and flap digraphs, identify titles for people, and long /i/ flap book.

Handwriting--The spelling words will coincide with the phonics focus and contain the i-e word pattern.  Tuesday and Thursday we will be doing Advent projects.

Math--We will finish Chapter 7 this week and take the test.  

Social Studies-Each afternoon we will continue our 12 Days of Christmas fun in 1st grade.

Week of Dec. 8th

Blessings for the 2nd Week of Advent


Mass on Monday for the Holy Day of Obligation.

Tuesday is the Home and School meeting.

Friday is the 1st Sunday Picnic free dress day with the pass from Fr. Grant.

Please make sure your child comes with a heavy winter coat, gloves, etc.. as recess is quite chilly.  


Last week we made cards for the homebound of the parish, enjoyed PJ Day, and celebrated a special birthday.

 Key Concepts for the Upcoming Week:

Religion--Tuesday we will begin Chapter 3--Jesus Grew Up in a Family,

Language Arts/ Grammar--We are going to begin lessons using the long vowel sounds.  The children will become familiar with "Sneaky e" which will make the vowel sound long.  We are also going to focus on the soft sound of the letters c and g.  The grammar focus will be proper nouns.  

Handwriting--We will have our spelling list on Monday, practice test on Wednesday, and a final test on Friday.  In our handwriting book we will practice the strokes for Uppercase A and the Advent page.

Math--We will continue place value, find number patterns, compare numbers, and order numbers this week.

Social Studies--The 12 Days of Christmas will continue.  Each day is kept a surprise for the children until after our afternoon special.  Last week we had Candy Cane Day and Gingerbread Day.  Hopefully, your child share a few of the details.
